HOUSTON (Jan. 24, 2006) – Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the Doctors Orchestra of Houston (www.DoctorsOrchestraHouston.org) presents Shakespeare and Love, Saturday, February 11 at 7 p.m. in the Cullen Theater at Wortham Center. Featuring child-prodigy violinist Jourdan Urbach, the concert will benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Society-Lone Star Chapter. The program includes Wieniawski Violin Concerto No. 2, Coriolan Overture by Beethoven, Romeo and Juliet Overture by Tchaikovsky, Richard III Prelude by Walton, Merchant of Venice by Sullivan, and West Side Story Selections by Bernstein.

The Doctors Orchestra is a community orchestra made up of 85 physicians, dentists, medical students, biomedical scientists and other allied health professionals as well as music lovers. The orchestra is sponsored by TIAA-CREF, a national financial services group of companies and the leading provider of retirement services in the academic, research, medical and cultural fields. With this support, the Doctors Orchestra raises funds for medical charities, like this concert’s beneficiary, the Multiple Sclerosis Society-Lone Star Chapter.

The Lone Star Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society was founded in 1955 with a mission to provide direct services to people affected by MS and to fund research in an effort to find a cure for the devastating effects of MS. Currently $5.3 million is being spent on research at medical facilities throughout the Lone Star Chapter. The Lone Star Chapter serves 141 counties in Texas and services an estimated 17,000 individuals with MS, their families and friends, the professionals who serve them, and the general public.
