HOUSTON (Nov.13, 2006) – The Doctors Orchestra of Houston (www.DoctorsOrchestraHouston.org) kicks off its 2006 to 2007 concert season with Strings in Motion, Sunday, November 19 at 5 p.m. in the Cullen Theater at Wortham Center. Featuring principal harpists Paula Page with the Houston Symphony, Jeanne Norton with ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus, and Catherine Barrett with the Yucatan Symphony Orchestra, the concert will benefit Family Services of Greater Houston. The program includes Coriolanus Overture by Beethoven; Knights of the Red Branch, a triple harp concerto by Kaska; Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun by Debussy; and Symphony No. 2 by Borodin.
The Doctors Orchestra is a community orchestra made up of 85 physicians, dentists, medical students, biomedical scientists and other allied health professionals as well as music lovers. The orchestra is led by its founder and music director Libi Lebel, a Russian-born conductor who holds degrees from Juilliard School of Music and Westminster Choir College. Ms. Lebel is credited with the Doctors Orchestra’s enormous growth since its inception in 2000.
